Making New Year’s Resolutions

So are you one of those people who make New Year’s resolutions?  I am hit or miss on this.  I pretty much do.  I just don’t tend to call them resolutions, but I do set goals for myself for the year.  HA!

My main goals are to run 5 half marathons, tracking my mileage and continue on my healthy trek.  It’s a lifestyle change after all!

Have you set goals or resolutions in the past and never achieved them?  Here is something to think about that might help you succeed.

Rules to Resolutions:

1)  Enlist a friend and/or family member to help you stay accountable.  This is a HUGE one.   Not only is it to hold you accountable, but it also puts your plans/intentions out there in the wide open universe and everyone knows it!

2)  Track your progress in a journal.  Another HUGE one.  It let’s you see PROGRESS!!  Without seeing progress, it’s hard to stay motivated.  When your tracking your progress and even when your setting your goals.  Make sure you think S.M.A.R.T!  S – Specific M – Measurable A – Attainable R – Realistic  T – Time Bound

3)  Hire a coach for EXTRA support.  This is where I come into play at.  My coaching is ALWAYS free!  I can be that friend or family member that helps keep you accountable.  Plus I’m not going to sugar coat things for you.  That is the therapist in me I think.

4)  Don’t be hard on yourself!  Keep your eyes on your end goal, and don’t stress over bumps in the road.  Enough said!

So with that, what are your goals or resolutions for the New Year?  I want to hear them!

  1. My goal is to run 1000 miles & two marathons. Had the same goal last year & hit the marathons, but due to a knee injury, getting married…and moving, well I just didn’t get there! 🙂 I ended the year at 635 – this year promises to be even better!

    • That is an awesome goal Debra! My goal this year is to run 5 half marathons. I have 2 in the first 4 months of the year already. Can’t wait to see what this year brings.
